The inspiration for The Singing Lion began with a dream Darlene had when she was just ten years old. After the dream, she wrote a short story about it during a classroom assignment that was given as a disciplinary exercise after the class behaved poorly toward a substitute teacher. Students were asked to write a story on any topic, and the assignment was not intended to be graded or returned. However, Darlene’s teacher was so impressed with her story that she returned it to her and awarded her an A+ for extra credit.
Over the years, Darlene shared this story with her sons and grandchildren, keeping the memory alive. That childhood dream and story eventually grew into the inspiring adventure that became The Singing Lion.
